Midlife

Perimenopause can changemore than your cycle.

Hormonal shifts during the menopause transition can interact with mood, sleep, cognition, energy and emotional regulation. We help sort out what's hormonal, what's psychiatric and what's both. When it's appropriate, Dr. Hansen provides hormone therapy (HRT).

Perimenopause & Menopause

People often come to us for

  • New or returning depression or anxiety in their 40s or 50s
  • Irritability or mood changes that feel out of character
  • Hot flashes, night sweats and disrupted sleep
  • Brain fog and trouble concentrating
  • Premenstrual or postpartum mood symptoms that are resurfacing
  • Questions about whether hormone therapy is right for them
How we approach it

The goal:the whole picture.

Timing can be informative.

Have symptoms changed during perimenopause? Did you have mood changes premenstrually or postpartum? These patterns help guide the evaluation.

"It's your hormones" isn't a diagnosis.

And "it has nothing to do with hormones" can miss context too. Symptoms are evaluated within your full medical, reproductive, medication and life history.

Hormone therapy, when it fits.

Dr. Hansen provides menopausal hormone therapy (HRT) when it's appropriate, weighing benefits, risks and your health history, and coordinating with your gynecologist or primary care provider.
